Description

This module covers the trajectory of twentieth century North Korea. We cover topics of interest to the field of North Korean studies such as colonialism, nationalism, militarism, ideology, migration, and violence. Students will be able to understand North Korea and Northeast Asia in historical, geo-political contexts. The module reaches into the fields of anthropology, history, and political science to provide a theoretical lens and comparative, case study-driven analysis to frame and understand the North Korean state and society. Students will be encouraged to move beyond the stereotypes of North Korea that they may have come across in the media.
